The attack took place just a day after President Vladimir Putin warned of retaliating against Ukraine's " spider network" campaign against military bases deep in Russian territory on June 1.
The alarm clock rang at 3am, as Kievans were awakened by a series of large explosions and bright red lights in the sky. Initial reports recorded at least three people injured, several fires, and residential areas in Solomyanskyi, Darnytskyi, Desnyanskyi and Holosiivskyi were all affected.
Mr. Tymur Tkachenko - the new leader of the Kiev City Military Agency - warned that Russia could deploy ballistic missiles in the next attack. He confirmed that the suicide UAV crashed into the upper floors of an apartment building in Darnytskyi district, causing a fierce fire and forcing residents to evacuate.
In Solomyanskyi District, the 11th floor of a 16-storey building also caught fire after being hit by a bullet. Firefighters were still fighting the fire.
In Holosiivskyi, a gas station was hit by bullets, a civil infrastructure project was on fire.
In Darnytskyi, debris fell onto the children's playground. No fire has been recorded in this area.
In Solomyanskyi, a major fire broke out in an uninhabited area; another residential building was being approached by rescue forces.
Residential areas on the left bank of Kiev are without power, and restoration work is underway.
"We ask people not to leave shelters until further notice," Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on X ( Twitter), confirming a state of emergency in at least three districts.
In the latest security warning on June 4, the US Embassy in Kiev advised Americans not to ignore airstrike warnings and take shelter, warning of "the risk of further intense airstrikes".
