Russia tightens online fraud control, cybercrime number decreases by 31%

Thanh Hà |

In the first 5 months of 2026, Russia recorded a 31% decrease in cybercrime cases compared to the same period last year.

Until 2025, the number of cybercrimes will still increase year by year. However, from January to May this year, the number of cases decreased by 31% compared to the same period last year" - TASS quoted Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko.

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister said that the second package of anti-fraud measures that has just been passed will help strengthen protection for people.

We expect the second package of measures signed and promulgated by the President to improve the effectiveness of citizen protection and help further reduce the number of cybercrimes" - Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko informed.

The second package of measures to combat cyber fraud was approved by the State Duma (Russian Lower House) in the third reading on June 9, 2026 and then signed into law by the President.

The new law stipulates a series of measures, including a mechanism allowing people to self-register to block incoming international calls, build a unified database on mobile device identification codes, and issue specialized SIM cards for children.

This initiative also stipulates that each individual can only own a maximum of 20 bank cards, and at the same time deploys a "panic button" on the online public service portal Gosuslugi so that people can quickly report or request support when suspected of being scammed.
