The Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey will be put into operation in 2026 - Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev - informed.
Surely, Akkuyu will be put into operation this year, this is our key task. Putting it into operation will definitely take place before the end of this year" - Mr. Likhachev shared with TASS reporters on September 10.
Akkuyu is the first nuclear power plant built in the Republic of Turkey.
This nuclear project includes 4 generating units equipped with VVER III+ generation nuclear reactors designed by Russia. Each generating unit will have a capacity of 1,200 MW.
The construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant is the first project in the global nuclear industry to be implemented under the build-own-operate (Build-Own-Operate) model, according to TASS.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Joint Stock Company Anton Dedusenko once revealed that the electricity produced by the Akkuyu nuclear power plant will significantly contribute to achieving Turkey's climate goals.
In addition to the many positive economic impacts that the Akkuyu project will bring, the electricity produced by the plant will make a significant contribution to achieving Turkey's climate targets, mainly carbon neutrality by 2053" - Mr. Dedusenko said.
Turkey will host the 31st Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31) this year. Leaders of the Akkuyu plant shared that hosting the important climate forum COP31 is a strategic move by Turkey, reflecting its commitment to sustainable development principles.
In recent years, discussions about the role of nuclear energy in the climate agenda have become more substantive and mature. Nuclear energy is not only a stable source of electricity with low carbon emissions, but also a technological platform to solve more challenges related to climate and infrastructure," Mr. Dedusenko added.
Mr. Dedusenko revealed that Rosatom plans to organize a series of events throughout COP31 to discuss practical solutions for the nuclear industry to help reduce carbon emissions without affecting the reliability of energy supplies or economic growth.
We plan to introduce Russian nuclear technologies at the Russian booth and are very pleased to welcome everyone to Antalya in November," said Anton Dedusenko, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Joint Stock Company.
