On July 28, according to TASS, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that Russian air defense forces had shot down 28 more unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) heading towards the capital, bringing the total number of intercepted UAVs since the beginning of the day to 73.
The information was announced by Mr. Sobyanin on his personal social media channel.
According to the Mayor of Moscow, emergency response forces have been deployed to areas where UAV debris appeared after being intercepted to ensure safety, handle the scene and assess damage.
Emergency response forces are working in the places where the UAV crashed," Mr. Sobyanin said.
According to TASS statistics based on the announcements released by Mr. Sobyanin on the same day, this is the latest interception in a series of UAV attacks targeting the Russian capital.
To date, Russian authorities have not released information about casualties or damage to infrastructure.
In recent months, Moscow and many areas in central and western Russia have frequently become targets of UAV attacks. In most cases, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that air defense systems have detected and intercepted most UAVs before they approach the target.
UAV attacks taking place with increasing frequency have forced the Russian authorities to repeatedly strengthen security measures in the capital, and at the same time deploy emergency response forces immediately after each interception to inspect the scene, collect debris and assess the risk of affecting people.
Up to now, the Russian Ministry of Defense has not announced more details about the latest attack nor has it made an assessment of the scale or targets of the downed UAVs. Meanwhile, functional agencies are still continuing to review the scene and verify related information.
