On July 1 (Moscow time), according to TASS, the Russian military said it had begun to widely use BM-70 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the special military operation area, with the ability to attack targets at a distance of up to 100km.
The information was released in a video released by the Russian Ministry of Defense, citing a company commander of the Central Operations Group.
According to this commander, the BM-70 can operate in many different combat conditions and the actual range depends on the environment as well as the specific situation on the battlefield.
In optimal conditions, the operating range of the device is about 100km, which can be slightly higher or lower depending on the circumstances," he said.
Russia said the BM-70 is used to attack many different types of targets, including enemy forces, temporary deployment locations as well as warehouses of supplies and ammunition.

One of the notable advantages of this system is its high mobility. According to Russia, UAVs do not require complex infrastructure to launch.
We only need an area with a radius of about 20m. Upon arrival, the operating force dismantles the launcher, installs wings for the device and can take the UAV off in 10 minutes," the commander said.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said that the BM-70 is equipped with a large-capacity warhead, capable of penetrating reinforced concrete fortifications and neutralizing many types of solid targets.
In addition, this UAV can also operate both day and night, significantly expanding its combat capabilities in many different conditions.
According to information from Moscow, the deployment of BM-70 allows the Russian army to expand the scope of attack without mobilizing air forces or tactical missile units.
Russian unmanned aerial vehicle operators are currently continuing to improve BM-70 exploitation skills, and apply this type of vehicle in many combat missions in frontline areas.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said that BM-70 UAVs have been used in the Dobropolye region and the border area of Dnipropetrovsk province of Ukraine.
Observers believe that continuing to invest in unmanned systems reflects the increasingly important trend of UAVs in modern military operations, as many countries seek to expand long-range attack capabilities at lower costs than traditional vehicles.
