Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the bankruptcy or sale of the company operating the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline would amount to "theft".
The latest information about Nord Stream 2 was shared by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference in Moscow on January 14.
Most recently, a Swiss court extended the deadline for Nord Stream 2 AG - a Swiss-registered subsidiary of Gazprom - to restructure its debts from January 10 to May 9.
According to the court, Nord Stream 2 AG must pay off debts to small creditors within 60 days.
Also at the press conference, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz "avoided solving" and "did not dare to react" when the Nord Stream pipeline was destroyed.
Last November, the Wall Street Journal reported that an American businessman wanted to buy Nord Stream 2.
Nord Stream 2 was to complete an $11 billion project in 2021 to pump Russian gas to Germany. But Germany halted plans to approve the Nord Stream 2 pipeline as relations with Russia deteriorated just before the Russia-Ukraine conflict erupted in February 2022. The United States also imposed sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
In September 2022, one of the two branches of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline was damaged in mysterious explosions. Two branches of the Nord Stream pipeline were also damaged in this shocking sabotage.
