On June 4 (local time), Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee, Aleksandr Bastrykin, said that the explosions that sabotaged the railway bridge last weekend in Bryansk and Kursk regions were all organized by Ukrainian intelligence forces. According to him, existing evidence clearly shows that both attacks were planned and carried out by Ukrainian special services.
Speaking at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and government officials, Mr. Bastrykin emphasized that the explosives used in the attacks were flexible explosives of foreign origin, with a destructive power equivalent to 15kg of TNT. The detonation system was identified as Ukrainian-made equipment.
The bombing killed 7 civilians and caused an estimated material damage of more than 1 billion rubles, equivalent to about 13 million USD. The investigation is still ongoing with the aim of clarifying all individuals and organizations involved in this sabotage act.
From May 20 to 25, Russian security forces have launched a campaign to search for a Ukrainiankykyst group in the Bryansk region. During the search, they discovered a warehouse containing 13kg of similar flexible explosives and remotely controlled explosive devices manufactured in Ukraine.
Mr. Bastrykin affirmed that these findings reinforce further evidence that the bridge attack was prepared in advance with outside support and technical equipment. The determination of the origin of the explosives is considered an important step forward in the comprehensive investigation of the incident.
