President Donald Trump officially launched his re-election campaign in June 2019 in Orlando, Florida, with the slogan " Maintaining America Great", slightly different from the 2016 slogan "Making America Great again". He told the supporters: "We have done it once and now we will do it again and this time we will complete the work."
Diplomatic policy
Donald Trump's foreign policy is defined by the "America First" program, in which he puts what he sees as the interests of the United States above all other things.
In a February 2019 federal speech, President Trump pledged to withdraw the US military from Syria, stating: "The great countries do not participate in endless wars." The president has also withdrawn troops from Afghanistan, and to some extent in Iraq.
One of the foreign achievements that Donald Trump is proud of is the Middle East. Last month, he praised the " dawn of a new Middle East" when the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain signed agreements to normalize relations with Israel, and most recently the peace agreement between Sudan and Israel - all of which were mediated by the US.
Also during his term, Mr. Donald Trump became the first US President in history to have two summits with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in 2018 and 2019.
negotiating agreements
During his term, Donald withdrew the US from a number of international agreements, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), the Paris climate agreement and the Iran Nuclear deal.
Regarding trade, Mr. Donald Trump fulfilled his campaign promise to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with Canada and Mexico.
Under President Donald Trump, the US and China trade wars have been fierce, with the world's two largest economies imposing hundreds of billions of dollars in tariffs on each other's goods.
In 2019, the US trade deficit in goods with China was slightly lower than in 2016. US companies import less as they seek to avoid Donald Trump's tariffs. However, despite the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on trends in 2020, the US still imports more goods than it exports.
He regularly questioned the amount of money the US spends to protect other countries and publicly criticized NATO, the Western military alliance founded after World War II.
Domestic problems
During nearly four years in office, President Donald Trump has signed a major tax reform law, stepping up illegal immigration enforcement, including Congress approval of nearly $1.4 billion to build a border wall (less much less than he requested) and declaring a state of emergency to add $3.6 billion to the wall.
The president has fulfilled campaign promises to lift government regulations and revoke much of former President Barack Obama's health insurance laws, commonly known as Obamacare.
During his term, Donald Trump had a strong economic growth including a decrease in unemployment rate to only 3.5% - the lowest level in 3 decades, and a sharp increase in important stock indexes.
However, as the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the world, the US unemployment rate reached a peak of 14.7% in April and then decreased to 11.1% in June when the economy added nearly 5 million jobs.
