According to Reuters, on January 13, US President-elect Donald Trump said he would soon meet Russian President Vladimir Putin after taking office.
Although he did not specify a specific time, Mr. Trump said: "I know he (Mr. Putin) wants to meet and I will do it soon." According to Mr. Trump, the meeting with President Putin is expected to take place when he completes the power transfer procedures at the White House.
Also on January 13, Mr. Trump said that there is only one strategy to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing that the strategy depends largely on Mr. Putin's decision.
According to Reuters, hope for a solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine was once again raised after Donald Trump was re-elected as US President in early November 2024.
Trump has pledged to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict within 24 hours of taking office, but a quick peace deal could come with major concessions that could cost Ukraine dearly, including ceding territory to Russia.
However, speaking at a press conference in Florida (USA) on January 7, Mr. Trump said that it may take up to 6 months after taking office to help Moscow and Kiev reach a peace agreement.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin also welcomed statements about Mr. Trump's intention to meet President Putin or cooperate with Moscow, but still noted that the conflict needs to be resolved in its true nature.
In addition, Mr. Putin has always maintained that one of the most important conditions for ending the conflict is that Ukraine must remain neutral and not align itself with any party. This means that Ukraine is not allowed to join NATO.
