President Donald Trump has warned BRICS countries that he will impose a 150% tax on any effort to create an alternative currency to the US dollar, TASS reported.
"The BRICS countries are looking to destroy our USD. They want to create a new currency," Trump said on February 20 at the Republican Governors' Association in Washington.
President Trump also said that BRICS countries are likely to want to use China's yuan.
"Therefore, the first thing I want to say is that "any BRICS country that mentions the destruction of the US dollar will be subject to a 150% tariff." We do not need your goods," the US leader added.
According to President Trump, he has not received any response from the BRICS group after threats of imposing tariffs. "We have not heard from the BRICS countries recently," he said.
Previously, Mr. Donald Trump announced a 100% tax on imports from BRICS countries if the group established its own currency or abandoned the USD.
He said any country that seeks to replace the US dollar in international trade will have to say bye to the United States.
