US President Donald Trump said on "Fox & Friends" on September 12 that he wanted to deploy the National Guard in Memphis, similar to what he deployed in Washington DC.
"Memphis is extremely unstable. We will solve that problem, just like we did in Washington," Trump said.
President Trump said the crime suppression campaign in Memphis could include federal forces, the National Guard and even the military, if necessary.
Memphis Mayor Paul Young confirmed at a press conference on the afternoon of September 12 that the National Guard will be deployed to the city.
Mr. Young said that there is no detailed information about the deployment of the National Guard force, such as the number, destination and how long the deployment will be. He will receive this information from the governor and the federal government.
However, the Memphis Mayor mentioned a decline in crime in the city over the past year.
As of September 11, 29,978 crimes were reported in Memphis in 2025, down about half of the same period in 2024, when there were 53,805 cases.
The city's data also showed that the number of murders here has decreased by nearly 30%, with 182 reported in 2025, compared to 261 in the same period last year.
The news of the National Guard moving to Memphis comes as President Donald Trump is pushing for national crime suppression, including a Fed enforcement force in Washington DC.
