President Donald Trump said the US would no longer spend directly on Ukraine, but instead sell weapons to NATO allies and then transfer them to Kiev - turning the conflict into a profit deal for the US.
Speaking to the press at the White House last weekend, President Donald Trump affirmed that his policy is completely different from the previous administration: Instead of unconditional aid, the US now sells weapons to NATO countries, then they continue to supply Ukraine.
We no longer spend more on the conflict. Everything sent is paid for, unlike Mr. Biden - he gave away 350 billion USD, it was a shock. Now this war is being paid for by NATO, Trump stressed.
President Trump also frankly added: I dont want to make money from that war, but the fact is that the US is making money, because our allies are buying our equipment.
Throughout his election campaign and even during his term in office, Mr. Trump repeatedly attacked former President Joe Biden for approving a series of huge military aid packages for Kiev. He called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky the worlds best seller for repeatedly convincing the West to pour money and weapons.
Mr. Trump also affirmed that the burden of supporting Ukraine must be borne more by NATO countries in Europe, instead of the US "paying back" as before.
Earlier this year, President Trump restarted a direct negotiation channel with Russia, but he admitted that the mediation process was much more difficult than expected.
Meanwhile, Russia has firmly maintained that no weapons from the West can turn the tide, accusing NATO of becoming a degreen combatant in Ukraine.
