Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on June 29 commented on the Finnish Parliament voting with a result of 125 votes in favor, 61 votes against to lift the ban on nuclear weapons in the country.
According to the Russian diplomat, the voting results show that anti-Russianism has won over the past few years.
Ms. Zakharova said that this decision is unfounded, because many leading politicians and functional agencies of Finland have repeatedly affirmed that Russia does not pose a direct military threat to this country.
No one doubts that retaliatory measures will be implemented promptly and effectively. The Finnish people need to consider whether the decision of their country's leaders really helps strengthen security for Finland itself or not," she emphasized.
According to TASS, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that Finland's lifting of the nuclear arms ban will force Russia to take more political as well as military-technical retaliatory measures.
Previously, the Russian Embassy in Helsinki said that there are currently no signs that Finland is building infrastructure to deploy nuclear weapons.
At the present time, there are no external signs that Finland is intentionally preparing infrastructure to deploy nuclear weapons," the Embassy stated.
However, the Russian diplomatic mission in Finland warned that even the possibility of nuclear weapons being deployed in Finland in the future will significantly affect the security situation in the Baltic - Arctic region, and Moscow will have to consider this factor.
On June 17, the Finnish Parliament passed a bill proposed by the government, allowing the introduction of nuclear weapons into the country's territory.
