The space planets drilled in space attire at a location at NASA's Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston (USA), which has a landscape quite similar to the Moon.
The simulation location is equipped with lights and black walls to simulate the harsh conditions on the Moon's surface, according to Space.com.
Photos of the space-custom drill show Meir chatting with her partner on the surface of the simulated Moon.
In this exercise, they did not have to wear completely sealed space travel outfits but used experimental models to get used to the weight and feel of the bulky outfit.
According to Meir, these drills will be very important for NASA's Artemis program as space travelers are planned to land on the Moon in 2025 or 2026.
The JSC facility is just one of many places that simulates lunar terrain to serve the spaceists' training. In addition, there is an annual drill in Flagstaff, Arizona (USA).
Here, NASA takes the astronauts into the desert at night, where lights are deployed to simulate the harsh sunlight on the Moon.
The Artemis 3 crew is yet to be named, but the mission around the moon Artemis 2 has named four astronauts. The Artemis 2 crew includes NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Canadian explorer Jeremy Hansen.
