CNN reporter Bruna Macedo and his team were present at the Bandeiras bridge in Sao Paulo on June 27 to report the rising water level on the Tete River due to heavy rain.
In the rare live footage of the incident, the attacker stood watching remotely on the bridge while Macedo was chatting with his colleague Rafael Colombo at the studio.
The attacker approached and pulled out a knife, surprising Macedo. She took a few steps back and gave the attacker one of her two phones before the lens changed direction to record the image on the street.
According to Daily Mail, female reporter Macedo continued to give the attacker a second phone. After robbing the two phones, the attackers left the scene.
host Rafael Colombo later told Brazil's Folha de Sao Paulo that Macedo was not injured and had returned to CNN after the incident.
"She went through a terrible fear but she's okay," Colombo said.
