AFP reported that Ms. Ksenia Yudaeva - former First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Russia and current advisor to Governor Elvira Nabiullina - will represent Russia on the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
"I confirm that from November 1, 2024, Ms. Ksenia will be the Russian executive director of the International Monetary Fund," Aleksei Mozhin, Russia's current representative at the IMF, said in an email to AFP, confirming information from Russian news agencies TASS and RIA Novosti.
Mr. Mozhin has held the position since 1996, making him the longest-serving member of the IMF's Executive Board .
Ms. Yudaeva was first placed on the US sanctions list on April 20, 2022, two months after Russia began its military campaign in Ukraine .
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Ms. Yudaeva was placed on the US sanctions list due to her positions at both the Central Bank of Russia and the commercial bank Otkritie.
In theory, US sanctions prohibit those involved from entering US territory, even though the IMF's headquarters are in Washington DC.
The sanctions also freeze any assets held, directly or indirectly, in the United States by the individuals involved, and prohibit any US company or citizen from conducting commercial or financial transactions with the sanctioned individuals.
