On July 7, according to Xinhua, China is expected to produce more than 100,000 humanoid robots in 2026, marking a strong growth step of the robot and artificial intelligence (AI) industry as the country continues to promote investment in advanced technologies.
The above information was announced by Mr. Gan Xiaobin, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT), at a press conference introducing the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2026 (WAIC 2026).
According to Mr. Gan, the rapid development of AI applications and the increasingly complete technology ecosystem are creating strong momentum for China's robotics industry, thereby contributing to promoting high-quality economic growth.
He said that the proportion of large-scale industrial enterprises in China applying AI has now exceeded 30%, showing that this technology is being deployed more and more widely in production and operation activities.
In addition, China's National Investment Fund for AI is also accelerating its operations to attract more social capital to invest in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics.
According to Chinese officials, the combination of AI with humanoid robots is opening up many opportunities for application in industrial production, logistics, healthcare, services and life.
Many of the latest technologies will be introduced at WAIC 2026, taking place in Shanghai from July 17 to 20.
This year's event is themed "AI Partnership for a Brighter Future" and will include six main contents such as professional forums, technology exhibitions, innovation incubation and talent connection.
According to the organizers, more than 1,100 businesses have registered to participate in the exhibition.
It is expected that more than 3,000 technology products will be displayed, of which more than 300 products will be launched globally for the first time.
WAIC is considered one of the world's largest events on artificial intelligence, gathering many technology businesses, research institutes and international experts.
China's target of producing more than 100,000 humanoid robots this year shows its ambition to maintain its position as one of the world's largest AI and robot development centers.
