VNA reported that on the afternoon of June 15, a bridge across the Indrayani River in Pune, Maharashtra state, western India, suddenly collapsed, killing at least 6 people and sweeping away about 25 others.
According to local media, the bridge collapse occurred at around 3:30 p.m. on June 15 (local time, same day at 5:00 p.m. Vietnam time) in the Kundmala area - a famous tourist destination of Pune city. Witnessnesses said that at the time of the incident, there were many tourists on the bridge.
Maharashtra Prime Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed that many of the injured victims were in critical condition and had been taken to the hospital.
Local lawmakers said the iron bridge was nearly 30 years old and that there were more than 100 people on the bridge when the incident occurred.
National disaster response forces have been deployed and are conducting search and rescue activities at the scene.
India has also just experienced a catastrophic plane crash when an Air India plane carrying 242 passengers and crew members crashed shortly after takeoff. The plane crash killed 241 people in the holdings and 38 people on the ground.
