India Today reported that 4 rapists were hanged at the same time, marking the first time 4 prisoners have been sentenced together in the facility of Tihar prison in Delhi, India. These 4 names were transferred to the prison's detention area No. 3 in January this year.
One was previously moved from Mandola prison to Tihar prison earlier this year. The remaining three names have been detained in Tihar since 2013.
Akshay prisoners, Mukesh Singh, Vinay Sharma and Pawan Gupta have been sentenced to death since 2013 for allegations of extremely dangerous crimes. These four of the six people were arrested by police delhi for involvement in the collective rape of a female student on the night bus on December 16, 2012. The fifth name is the brother of Mukesh - Ram Singh, killed himself in the cell of Tihar prison in March 2013. The sixth person was identified as a minor at the time of crime and was taken to the re -education camp for 3 years.
After a trial that lasted more than seven years, on the evening of March 19, the Delhi High Court rejected the defense of one of the four defendants for requesting a postponement of execution. A similar ruling was upheld by six Supreme Court judges for the death penalty against four defendants Akshay, Mukesh, Vinay and Pawan.
It is known that these defendants have submitted many petitions to delay the execution since their sentences were imposed in 2013.
The shocking assault of Indian female student Jyoti Singh, 23, in 2012 shocked the world public.
Singh and a friend left the cinema and took a bus home. However, five men and a teenager beat her friend unconscious, dragging Singh to the back of the bus, raping and torturing her with a metal bar.
The female medical student and her friend were then thrown onto the road. Singh died 13 days later in a Singaporean hospital from multiple injuries.
According to AFP, Singh's mother - Asha devi welcomed the verdict and said that "the soul of the girl will eventually rest".
