A spokesperson for the rescue agency said a massive explosion occurred in the port city of Bandar Abbas, injuring 516 people, CNN reported.
Previously, according to initial information from the authorities, 47 people were injured in the explosion in Iran.
Images and videos show a column of thick gray smoke rising from the Shahid Rajaee area of Bandar Abbas.
Iran's state media agency Tasnim reported that the explosion at one of Iran's main oil facilities broke glass in buildings and yielded debris over a large area. No deaths have been reported.
A Tasnim reporter said rescue forces arrived at the scene but the port was "still in chaos" and many buildings were severely damaged.
Tasnim also reported that a fuel tank " exploded for unknown reasons" and its operations at the port were suspended.
State broadcaster IRIB said the explosion occurred in the chemical and sulfur areas of the port.
