The plan, which is being rolled out earlier than originally planned, marks a new step in SpaceX's efforts to improve its in-flight internet connectivity experience.
According to information from United Airlines, this Wi-Fi service will be provided free of charge to the airline's loyal customers, instead of applying to all passengers as previously planned.
The first flight with Starlink Wi-Fi will be on an Embraer SA E175 jetliner. The service will be rolled out on larger passenger aircraft by the end of 2025.
In addition to United Airlines, Starlink satellite Wi-Fi service has also been deployed on other airlines in the US. Hawaiian Holdings Inc., which provides air transportation services to and from the Hawaiian Islands, and JSX, which specializes in domestic flights, have both used this satellite system.
Starlink is expanding its reach beyond the United States. Qatar Airways QCSC has already adopted the satellite system, while other major carriers such as Air Baltic Corp. (Lithuania), Air New Zealand Ltd., and ZIPAIR Tokyo Inc. (Japan) have also signed agreements with SpaceX to deploy similar services in the future.
The application of Starlink satellites brings many significant benefits, including the ability to provide faster and more stable Internet connections on flights. This is considered an optimal solution to meet the increasing needs of passengers, especially in the context of the aviation industry increasingly focusing on improving service quality.
