The UK Maritime Trade Coordination Center (UKMTO) on May 10 said that a bulk cargo ship was hit by an unidentified object while moving about 23 nautical miles northeast of Doha, the capital of Qatar.
According to UKMTO, the incident caused a small fire on the ship, but the fire was quickly controlled. The captain reported no casualties and no environmental impact was recorded.
Authorities are currently investigating the origin of the object that hit the ship.
UKMTO recommends that ships operating in the area move cautiously and report any suspicious activities to this agency.
The incident took place in the context that the Hormuz Strait, Persian Gulf and Oman Gulf regions have just recorded a calm return after 2 days of fighting between US troops and Iranian forces.
According to regional sources, in the past 24 hours, no notable fighting or clashes have been recorded in the Strait of Hormuz and adjacent waters. The US, Iran and Gulf countries have also not issued notices or accusations related to unusual armed activities.
Previously, on May 7-8, US troops and Iranian forces clashed fiercely, marking the first time the two sides had fought since reaching a ceasefire agreement on April 8. The US military announced that it had attacked Iranian targets including Bandar Abbas port, Qeshm island and 3 oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman.
The Iranian side announced that it had launched missiles and drones targeting 3 US destroyers entering the Strait of Hormuz.
Fighting has completely disrupted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz for 3 consecutive days. After the situation calmed down, a Qatari liquefied gas tanker has been confirmed to have passed through the Strait of Hormuz and is heading towards Pakistani waters. According to regional sources, this is Qatar's first LNG ship to pass through this maritime route since the conflict broke out on February 28, 2026.
