A Russian gas tanker was attacked in the Mediterranean Sea by a Ukrainian unmanned boat, the Russian Ministry of Transport informed.
On March 3, the Russian gas tanker Arctic Metagaz was attacked in the Mediterranean region, near the territorial waters of Malta, a member state of the European Union (EU)" - the Russian Ministry of Transport said.
The Russian gas tanker is on its way out of the port of Murmansk and is carrying goods that have been fully documented and comply with all international regulations, the Russian Ministry of Transport noted.
According to the announcement, the attack was carried out from the Libyan coast area by a Ukrainian unmanned boat.
Thanks to the coordination between Malta and Russia rescue forces, all 30 crew members, all Russian citizens, were safely rescued.
The Russian Ministry of Transport described the incident as an act of international terrorism and piracy, and accused it of being a serious violation of the basic principles of international maritime law. Such criminal acts cannot but be evaluated and considered by the international community.
According to data from the Russian Maritime Register, the Arctic Metagaz gas tanker was built in 2003. The ship is registered at Sochi port.
