Such fatal accidents are common in Thailand, which often tops the list of the world's deadliest accidents, with speeding, drunk driving and poor law enforcement.
According to a 2018 report by the World Health Organization, Thailand has the second highest traffic death rate in the world.
Although most of the victims were motorcyclists, bus collisions involving groups of tourists and immigrant workers often caused a stir in public opinion.
In March 2018, at least 18 people were killed and dozens injured when a bus carrying returning from a vacation in northeastern Thailand crashed off the road and crashed into a tree.
