The National Highway 50 expansion project is invested by the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board), starting construction at the end of 2022.
The total investment capital of the project is about 1,500 billion VND and the implementation period will last until 2025.
The entire route is nearly 7 km long, passing through Binh Chanh district, including two main items: building a new parallel road 4.2 km long and expanding the existing National Highway 50 section from a cross-section of 7 m to 34 m with 6 lanes for traffic.
This is a key project to reduce traffic pressure and improve regional connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and the Western provinces.
On December 30, 2024, a parallel road section of about 2 km long (from near the intersection of Trinh Quang Nghi Street to the entrance to National Highway 50) was technically opened to traffic, contributing to "resolving" the initial bottleneck for this traffic axis.
Up to now, the parallel section has been constructed at about 90% of the volume; the entire project has reached about 67%.
In a recent document sent to Binh Chanh District, the Traffic Department said that the project still has 3 locations that have not been handed over.
At the parallel section of National Highway 50, a household near the intersection of Trinh Quang Nghi Street has not yet handed over the site despite having begun cleaning. According to the scheduled schedule, this household will hand over on May 15.
At the existing National Highway 50 expansion section, a household has not agreed to hand over land due to not completing the procedures to receive resettlement land.
In addition, in the Ong Thin bridge area, a household, although previously handed over the site, has suddenly obstructed construction since April 26, 2025 until now with the reason of not receiving compensation.
It is worth mentioning that in the report sent to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on April 23, the Binh Chanh District People's Committee affirmed that the site clearance work for the National Highway 50 project has been completed.
According to the report, after the process of contacting, mobilizing and persuading, all affected households demolished their houses and works and agreed to hand over the land.
Faced with the above situation, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board has recommended that the People's Committee of Binh Chanh District continue to work with relevant units, especially households still stuck, to quickly hand over the site and ensure project progress.
