VNA reported that the US Senate has officially approved a second nomination round, including 107 key positions in the Trump administration with a close margin of 51-47, marking an important step forward in perfecting the personnel apparatus of the current administration.
Among the approved positions, it is noteworthy the reappointment of Mr. Paul Atkins as Chairman of the US Securities Commission (SEC) for a term until 2031. In addition, dozens of government prosecutors in court and Sergio Gor - the new US Ambassador to India were also confirmed during the trial.
Deputy Senate majority leader John Barrasso, a Republican, welcomed the result and said it was the end of the delay in confirmation from the Democratic Party. The move comes after Republicans successfully approved the first 48 nominations three weeks ago.
To achieve this result, the Republican Party had to make internal rules adjustments after many weeks of discussion, allowing the approval of package nominations instead of handling individual cases as before. This is to deal with the "time-wasting" tactic of Democratic lawmakers.
However, the Senate did not vote on two bills related to ending the US government's closure on the same day, including a "clean" resolution proposed by Republicans passed by the House of Representatives. Both previous laws have failed 5 times due to not reaching the necessary threshold of 60 votes.
