"Hopefully Russia will agree to a ceasefire," President Donald Trump told reporters at the Department of Transport.
"I have received some positive messages, but the positive message does not say anything. This is a very serious situation," the US leader added.
On March 12, the Kremlin said it was waiting for detailed information from Washington about a ceasefire proposal in Ukraine. Meanwhile, senior Russian sources said the ceasefire in Ukraine would have to take into account Russia's progress on the ground while also addressing Russia's concerns.
In the sharing, President Trump said that the ceasefire will be meaningful to Russia but "there are also many disadvantages for Russia". However, he did not specify further about this assessment.
"We have handled a very complicated situation in some aspects, basically handled it. We have also discussed the territory and other issues related to the territory," he said.
When asked what he would do to pressure Russia, President Donald Trump replied: "I can take financial action, but that will hurt Russia. I don't want to do that because my goal is to achieve peace."
