Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on September 3 that a Russian attack on a military educational facility in Poltava, central Ukraine, left 41 people dead and more than 180 others injured.
"More than 180 people were injured. Unfortunately, many people died. As of now, 41 people have been reported dead," Mr. Zelensky shared.
Mr. Zelensky added that according to preliminary information, two ballistic missiles hit the military educational facility in Poltava and a nearby hospital on the morning of September 3.
Reuters reported that the Russian attack with two ballistic missiles also damaged a building of the Institute of Communications in Poltava.
The Ukrainian leader has ordered a full and prompt investigation into the circumstances of Russia's latest attack on Ukrainian territory. He stressed that Russia "will certainly be held responsible for this attack".
Mr. Zelensky also reiterated his call for the West to strengthen Ukraine's air defenses and urged allies to allow Kiev to use long-range weapons to strike deeper into Russian territory .
"Air defense and missile systems need to be in Ukraine, not in some warehouse. Long-range strikes that can protect us are needed now, not later. Every day of delay means losing lives," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed.
