Reuters reported that on March 2, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the relationship between him and US President Donald Trump could still be saved after a tense meeting at the Oval Office on February 28.
At a meeting with European leaders in London on sending a draft peace plan to Washington, Mr. Zelensky affirmed that Ukraine will not cede any territory to Russia in a peace deal, and expressed his willingness to sign a mineral deal with the US.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr. Zelensky expressed optimism and thanked the support from European countries. However, he was cautious when answering the press, trying to balance between disappointment with the meeting at the White House and his desire to maintain dialogue with Washington.
The Ukrainian president believes that relations with Mr. Trump will continue, and affirmed that Washington will not stop aid to Kiev.
According to Mr. Zelensky, the US is the "leader of a civilized world" and stopping the supply of weapons to Ukraine only brings an advantage to Russia. W Washington will not help Russian President Vladimir Putin, he said.
In an interview with the press, the Ukrainian leader emphasized the important role of the United States as a leading military ally. However, he noted that further discussions with Mr. Trump should not be held publicly, because, according to him, this does not bring any benefits or value to Ukraine as a partner.
Also according to Reuters, at a meeting in London, European leaders agreed to develop a peace plan for Ukraine to persuade the US to issue security guarantees that Kiev considered necessary to avoid a recurrence of the conflict.
Meanwhile, Russian lawmaker Konstantin Kosachev expressed skepticism about Europe's role in peace efforts, saying Ukraine should only expect progress in Russia-US relations.
