North Korea on June 14 declared on the issue of denuclearization, and criticized recent discussions between the US and South Korea on strengthening nuclear deterrence.
In a statement published by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the statements of the US and allied forces aimed at Pyongyang, along with cooperation in creating a nuclear threat to this country, will not change North Korea's position as a nuclear weapons possessing country.
The spokesman emphasized that "denuclearization" is an issue that has been completed irreversibly. According to the statement, the efforts and related statements from the US and related parties have no impact on Pyongyang's current stance.
North Korea's reaction was made after discussions between US and South Korean officials in Seoul within the framework of the Nuclear Consultative Group (NCG).
At this meeting, the two sides exchanged views on strengthening nuclear deterrence capabilities and improving readiness for North Korea's developing weapons program.
Pyongyang's statement shows that it continues to reject the view of denuclearization, and opposes military and security cooperation between the US and South Korea related to the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula.
