Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov - head of the combat training department under the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, passed away after being injured, the official spokesman of the Russian Investigative Committee Svetlana Petrenko said.
Investors are pursuing many directions related to the assassination. One of the assumptions is that it was staged by Ukrainian intelligence agencies, said Petrenko.
According to witnesses, after the explosion, rescue forces had to deploy a large-scale campaign to rescue the victims.
Many reports said that Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov suffered "multiple wounds from shrapnel" and "broken faces" and was taken to the hospital before being declared dead.
In addition to the Russian Lieutenant General, seven other vehicles were also affected and damaged in the blast.
At first, we thought a drone had been shot down. There was an explosion, but there was no fire," said a local resident.
The attack comes after Ukraine was blamed for the assassination of senior military figures in Russia. Last year, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, 54, commander of Russia's radiation, chemical and biological defense forces, died in an explosion when he left the apartment building to go to work.
Major General Yaroslav Moskalik, 58, was also killed when a Volkswagen Golf caught fire while walking near his home in Moscow in April this year.
