According to RT, this move is said to be a direct response to a series of drone attacks by Kiev, targeting civil infrastructure inside Russia.
In the announcement released on May 27, the Russian Defense Ministry emphasized that recent attacks by Ukraine have increased significantly in both scale and level of danger.
In just one week, more than 2,300 drones were destroyed or intercepted by Russian air defense forces, most of which did not operate near the front line. The attacks have caused casualties to civilians, including women and children.
Russia has accused the Kiev government, backed by several European countries, of deliberately sabotaging the peace talks between the two sides. These provocational actions were taken at a time when Russia had launched direct dialogues with Ukraine, with the first meeting since 2022 held in Istanbul on May 16.
At this meeting, the two sides reached a large-scale Prisoner exchange agreement, in the hope of paving the way for further dialogue rounds.
According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, a memorandum of understanding is being drafted by Moscow, which outlines key conditions for a ceasefire, a roadmap for resolving the conflict and moving towards a peace agreement. The document will be transferred to Kiev after completing the multi-phase Prisoner exchange process.
However, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Kiev government is seeking to divert this diplomatic effort by attacks using weapons provided by the West.
In response, Russian armed forces have carried out precision airstrikes against a series of Ukrainian military targets, including military bases, warehouses, airports, radar stations, as well as drone factories, gunpowder and explosives.
The Russian Defense Ministry affirmed: The Russian military will continue to conduct large-scale attacks in response to any terrorist or provincial actions from the Kiev regime. All attacks have targeted military facilities and enterprises in Ukraine's defense industry complex."
