RT reported that in the early morning of May 24, the Ukrainian capital Kiev was shocked by a series of powerful explosions and the Russian Ministry of Defense officially confirmed: a high-precision attack targeted key military facilities, including missile and UAV factories, radar monitoring centers and patriot air defense systems provided by the US.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the attack used high-precision ground weapons and suicide drones against a Ukrainian defense industry complex that produces missile weapons and attack UAVs - believed to be the Antonov plant located in western Kiev.
Information from the scene said that a series of loud explosions were heard all night, with a huge column of fire and smoke widely shared on social media.
Russia said all targets were completely destroyed, including the US radar monitoring center and patriot missile defense system.
The attack was seen as a direct response by Moscow after Ukraine increased UAV attacks on Russian territory in the past week.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that from May 20 to 23, the country shot down 788 UAVs and 12 missiles. On the night before the attack on Kiev alone, 104 more UAVs were intercepted.
Russia has also accused Ukraine of causing civilian casualties using Western weapons. One person was killed and 20 others were injured, including four children, in UAV attacks by Ukraine during the week.
A US-supplied HIMARS missile shelling injured four people, including two children, in Lgov city, Kursk Oblast.
In the context of escalating tensions, the Russian Defense Ministry stressed that Moscow's attacks only targeted military facilities and defense industry plants, completely different from the way Ukraine used UAVs to attack residential areas.
