Moscow region governor Andreyvorobyov said five people, including a child, were injured after an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacked an apartment building in the city of Krasnogorsk, a suburb of Moscow.
"A residential building in Krasnogorsk was damaged by a UAV attack. The UAV flew into an apartment on the 14th floor. Five people were injured, including a child. The four people were taken to the hospital in time,"vorobyov wrote on Telegram.
The Governor added that the 2017-born baby suffered minor injuries to his leg and knee arthritis and was hospitalized. Adults with more serious injuries, including traumatic brain injuries, fractures and bullets, are also receiving intensive treatment.
The attack caused significant damage. The three apartments were damaged and partially destroyed. The debris from the outer walls of the building and the windows was thrown about 100m away.
Immediately after the incident, emergency services, staff from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (MCHS) and law enforcement agencies were present at the scene. About 70 people were evacuated from the apartments in the building.
Governorvorobyov and the head of Volkov district both said that the victims and their families would receive the necessary support from the government.
Currently, authorities are determining the situations surrounding the incident. Governorvorobyov confirmed that this was a UAV attack, however. He also noted that the hypothesis of a deliberate UAV attack is being investigated.
Krasnogorsk is a city located immediately northwest of Moscow. In recent months, Moscow and neighboring areas have been the target of drone strikes, causing damage to buildings and disrupting operations at airports.
The latest attack on a densely populated residential building continues to raise security concerns in the Russian capital region.
