Reuters reported that on September 8 (local time), Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that Ukrainian forces attacked a fuel depot and caused a fire.
On his social media account, Mr. Vyacheslav Gladkov stated: “Ukrainian military used drones to attack a fuel storage site in the Volokonovsky district. Several oil tanks caught fire. Firefighters are trying to extinguish the fire." This is an area near the border.
Mr. Vyacheslav Gladkov added that there were drone attacks on three other localities.
On the other hand, Mr. Gladkov reported that 3 residents were injured in Belgorod, including 2 children. In addition, two residential buildings were destroyed and 15 others were damaged.
In overnight air strikes, Ukrainian officials said two people were killed and four injured in Sumy province.
The Russian Defense Ministry said it destroyed one drone in Belgorod and Kursk. Two drones were intercepted in Belgorod.
Border areas in both countries are frequently the scene of conflict. Both countries deny targeting civilians, saying the attacks are aimed at destroying vital infrastructure.
Previously, on September 1, Ukraine carried out a series of drone attacks on an oil refinery near Moscow, resulting in a fire.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said several drones targeted the refinery and caused a fire in the technical room. The Russian Defense Ministry said its air defense units destroyed 158 Ukrainian drones overnight.
Thousands of people have died in the conflicts. Much of the infrastructure in both countries has been left in ruins or severely damaged.
