On December 29, President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected Russia's accusations that Ukraine launched a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) attack on one of President Vladimir Putin's residences, and said that Moscow was trying to sabotage peace talks.
Mr. Zelensky called this accusation "liar", saying that Russia is creating an excuse to continue attacks on Ukraine. He also noted that Russia had previously repeatedly targeted government buildings in Kiev.
On social network X, Mr. Zelensky wrote: "The key thing is that the world must not remain silent at this time. We cannot allow Russia to weaken its efforts to achieve lasting peace.
Moscow's accusations were made after talks between the US and Ukraine in Florida on December 28, where President Donald Trump and Mr. Zelensky discussed a revised peace plan to end the conflict.
After the meeting, Mr. Zelensky told reporters that there is "a possibility of ending this conflict" in 2026, but emphasized that Ukraine cannot win without US support.
“My perception of Mr. Trump's sanctions and economic moves shows that he is ready to take very strong measures” - Mr. Zelensky said, while emphasizing that “in this context, the US can accelerate the progress towards peace”.
The Ukrainian President also said there were no signs that President Putin wanted peace, and affirmed that he did not trust the Russian leader.
Mr. Zelensky added that the US has proposed security assurances for Ukraine for 15 years, and Mr. Trump said an agreement on this issue has been "completed by nearly 95%".
Regarding territorial issues and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant controlled by Russia, the Ukrainian leader described these as final points that have not yet been resolved.
