Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on March 27 that Kiev is moving towards reaching an agreement with Middle Eastern countries on the supply of diesel oil, the most severely depleted fuel in the country.
Speaking in an interview with Ukrainian television while on a trip to the Middle East, Mr. Zelensky also confirmed that Ukraine and Saudi Arabia have signed a defense cooperation agreement, laying the foundation for future contracts, technology cooperation and investment.
Mr. Zelensky revealed that he is discussing with ministers and the national energy corporation Naftogaz about "the possibility of a diesel oil shortage".
I understand the importance of this task for Ukraine's security and believe that this issue will be resolved. First of all, the issue is diesel oil. Because about 90% of the risk of shortage is concentrated in this type of fuel, this is the focus that we are prioritizing handling" - he emphasized.
Previously, Mr. Zelensky said that the framework agreement was signed before his meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The Ukrainian President expects the visit to the Gulf region to help strengthen support for Ukraine in the context of conflict with Russia.
Ukraine has also sent more than 220 experts to advise some Middle Eastern countries on how to intercept drone attacks, which have seriously damaged energy infrastructure in the region.
