On June 8, a representative of the Santa Fe Foundation Hospital informed about the critical condition of lawmaker Miguel Uribe, but refused to release his prognosis.
Mr. Uribe (39 years old) - a candidate for the 2026 Colombian presidential election - is a member of the conservative Democratic Center (DC) party.
On June 7, according to a reporter from DC, Uribe was holding a campaign event at a public park in the Fontibon neighborhood of the capital Bogota when "the subjects with guns fired from behind".
The suspect was arrested shortly afterwards because the police discovered the 15-year-old boy carrying a gun.
Police chief Carlos Triana further revealed that the suspect was injured after a chase with the authorities and was taken for treatment.
Mr. Uribe was said to have been hit by two shots from behind, at least one of which hit his neck or head. Video circulating on social media shows him bleeding from the head after being given first aid by assistants and people.
Up to now, authorities have not yet reached a final conclusion on the motive of the assassination despite arresting the suspect.
Notably, Mr. Uribe has long pursued a tough stance on armed groups in Colombia, in contrast to President Gustavo Petro - a left-wing leader who pledged to negotiate peace with them.
