From July 9-13, the 50th General Assembly of the Francophone Parliamentary Alliance (APF-50) took place in Paris, France, with the participation of more than 550 delegates from 59 countries and territories. The Vietnamese delegation led by Party Central Committee member and Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh attended the event and affirmed Vietnam's position and active role in the Francophone Community.
This is the first time the Vietnamese National Assembly has attended an APF General Assembly at the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly level, especially after successfully hosting the APF Executive Committee Conference and the Parliamentary Forum on Francophone cooperation in the fields of food security, sustainable agriculture and climate change in Can Tho in January this year.
Vietnam is considered a key member of the Francophone Community in the Asia-Pacific region. Since 1997, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Subcommittee of APF, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Anh, has been trusted by members and continuously elected to hold high positions.
At the plenary session on July 12, with the theme " Francophone Community, the fulcrum of a crisis world", Ms. Nguyen Thuy Anh - representative of Vietnam - gave an important speech expressing her views and specific proposals, carrying the message of peace and multilateral cooperation of Vietnam.
Appreciating the theme of the conference, Ms. Thuy Anh affirmed: "In the context of the complicated and unpredictable world situation with tensions, geopolitical conflicts, competition, strategic separation, financial and monetary instability, food crisis... The APF General Assembly's discussion on the theme " Francophone Community, the fulcrum of a world in crisis" is very timely and important.
The Chairman of the Vietnam Sub-committee of APF affirmed: "Vietnam always shares and supports the noble values and goals of the Francophone Community: peace, democracy, cultural - language diversity, solidarity, cooperation and development. These are also the goals that the State and People of Vietnam are striving to achieve in the current comprehensive innovation process".
On this occasion, the Vietnamese representative made 3 specific proposals to enhance the operational efficiency of APF and the Francophone Community.
Firstly, in terms of reform and adaptation, the Francophone Community needs to promote reforms to adapt to rapid changes in the world and the Francophone space, improve operational efficiency, and focus more on the priorities of members, especially economic cooperation.
Second, regarding the role of the parliament in peace, APF and other inter-parliamentary organizations continue to be forums for parliamentarians to express their views and reflect the aspirations of the people, together building and protecting a united and peaceful world, promoting multilateral cooperation, resolving disputes by peaceful means on the basis of respect for international law, towards sustainable development.
Third, on language and cultural development, promoting teaching and training programs in French, encouraging the recruitment of French personnel, enhancing people-to-people exchanges, cultural and educational exchanges, thereby making French a bond, strengthening solidarity between countries and peoples.
The 50th General Assembly of the Francophone Parliamentary Alliance concluded its session with many positive results, affirming the increasingly important role of the Francophone language in promoting dialogue, peace and international cooperation. With active participation and meaningful contributions, Vietnam continues to affirm its position in the Francophone Community and in the international arena.
