Vietnam - Russia affirm 6 major orientations for developing bilateral relations

Six major orientations to develop Vietnam-Russia relations in the new period were affirmed by both sides.

At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and the high-level Vietnamese delegation attended the High-Level Conference to Commend the 35th Anniversary of ASEAN-Russia Relations held from June 17-18, in Kazan, Russian Federation.

Answering an interview about the results of the visit, Politburo Member, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung affirmed that, as an active and responsible member of ASEAN and Russia's leading Comprehensive and Reliable Strategic Partner in the region, the high-level Vietnamese delegation led by Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung made many important contributions to the results of the conference and left outstanding imprints.

Regarding bilateral activities, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung pointed out that Russia has given the Prime Minister and the high-level Vietnamese delegation a very special welcome. Russian President V. Putin spent a long time exchanging with Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, thereby showing Russia's special respect for Vietnam as well as ASEAN to enhance mutual understanding.

According to him, the effective talks with President Putin within the framework of this visit are a continuation of positive foreign affairs activities aimed at constantly improving political relations to create momentum to promote and comprehensively enhance Vietnam-Russia relations in the new era.

The visit to Russia has achieved particularly important results, prominently shown in some key points:

First, the two sides affirmed that they especially value strengthening high-level political relations of trust, determined to reposition and continue to comprehensively enhance Vietnam-Russia relations to meet the modernization needs of each country in the new historical period.

Six major orientations to develop Vietnam-Russia relations in the new period affirmed by both sides include: Taking political trust as the foundation; Considering defense and security cooperation as a strategic pillar; Identifying energy, oil and gas and nuclear power cooperation as a strategic breakthrough; Maximizing potentials to strengthen economic - trade and investment cooperation; Promoting effective cooperation in mining, shipbuilding, railway modernization, connecting transport routes; Consolidating cooperation in science, technology, education and training.

Second, the two leaders agreed that Vietnam-Russia relations are going in the right direction and have outstanding results.

Energy cooperation is a bright spot with the signing of the Agreement on the construction of Ninh Thuan 1 Nuclear Power Plant, a project of historical significance, a new symbol in Vietnam-Russia relations, laying the foundation for the development of Vietnam's nuclear industry. The two sides have also reached important agreements in the field of oil and gas exploration and exploitation in Vietnam and the Russian Federation, and are actively negotiating to study the possibility of expanding cooperation in new fields such as clean energy, renewable energy, oil and gas trade, LNG, and building energy reserve infrastructure in Vietnam," the Minister pointed out.

Third, the two sides agreed to actively and effectively implement existing mechanisms and agreements in the fields of politics, defense - security, energy - oil and gas, nuclear power and other fields.

Bilateral activities with Russia on the occasion of attending the ASEAN - Russia 35th anniversary Summit, in which the focus is the talks with President Putin, affirming the determination of the senior leaders of the two countries to position and elevate the Vietnam - Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the new era, increasing the depth of relations and bilateral cooperation" - Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung said.
