While Germany is hunting for a group of suspects for the Nord Stream sabotage in 2022, a Ukrainian woman in Poland confirmed that her husband was wrongly arrested. The private story in a small apartment in Pruszkow reveals another perspective on the European shocking case.
Julyana Z - the wife of Ukrainian citizen Volodymyr Z, who is accused of being involved in the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline - has denied all allegations. In an interview with Radio Zet (Poland) on October 5, Julyana said that her husband was arrested at home while preparing to go to work in the morning.
"The police raided when my children were preparing to go to school. My husband only had time to ask to get his jacket before being handcuffed to take him away. We don't know what's going on, and we don't have to explain our rights," she said in a choked voice.
According to Julyana, Volodymyr did not resist when he was arrested. She firmly asserted that her husband could not be involved in the Nord Stream explosion in 2022, which shocked the whole of Europe for paralyzing the Russian gas transit route to Germany.
We are always together. I will know if there is anything unusual. I absolutely believe that he is innocent, that day he was with me all the time" - she added.
Volodymyr's family lives in the town of Pruszkow, a suburb of Warsaw. Their two children are studying at a local school and Julyana confirmed that he has no intention of leaving Poland: My children love this country and want to build a future here.
According to Rzeczpospolita, Volodymyr Z was arrested on September 30 under a European wanted notice issued by a German court as part of an investigation into the Nord Stream explosion. After being arrested, Volodymyr Z was taken to the Warsaw District Prosecutor's Office for questioning. extradition procedures to Germany are being prepared.
Before going to Poland, Volodymyr Z served in the Ukrainian army but only worked as an accountant, not in the combat force. The suspect's wife further confirmed that her husband has a deep- sea diving obsession - details matching the description in the German records, where the suspects are believed to be four divers, one explosives expert, one captain and the group leader.
The joint investigation is being conducted by Germany, Sweden and Denmark since 2022, after three of the four pipelines Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 were destroyed in the Baltic Sea.
In August 2025, a joint investigation by Die Zeit, ARD and Süddeutsche Zeitung revealed that German authorities had identified the entire group of suspects - all of whom were Ukrainian citizens.
However, the incident is still sheltered in mystery and controversy. Many European countries are cautious about making official conclusions without solid evidence.
Russia - the country with the largest damage - has repeatedly called for an independent international investigation, accusing the West of deliberately "hiding the truth".
