Storm No. 11 weakens, warns of heavy rain and flash floods in 6 mountainous provinces

Storm No. 11 weakened into a tropical depression and swept into the North, causing rain in 6 provinces, with the risk of flash floods of level 3.

Early this morning (October 6), storm No. 11 after moving deep into the mainland of Guangxi province (China) weakened into a tropical depression.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 7:00 a.m. on October 6, the center of the tropical depression was at about 22.0°N - 107.1°E, in the southern area of Guangxi Province (China), about 100 km from the Vietnam border.

The strongest wind near the center reaches level 7 (50-61 km/h), gusting to level 9, moving west at a speed of 20-25 km/h.

It is forecasted that by 7:00 p.m. the same day, the center of the low pressure area will be at about 22.5°N - 104.8°E, in the mountainous areas of the North, and will continue to weaken into a low pressure area with an intensity below level 6.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warned that the northern area of the Gulf of Tonkin, mainland Quang Ninh and Lang Son are affected by level 3 natural disaster risk.

From this morning, the northern sea area of the Gulf of Tonkin (including Bach Long Vi island) will have strong winds of level 6, gusts of level 8, waves 23 m high, rough seas, endangering the operation of ships and boats.

On land, Quang Ninh and Lang Son have strong winds of level 5-6, gusting to level 7-8. The government recommends that people limit going out and tying up their houses, especially in areas along hills, small streams and steep slopes at high risk of landslides.

Due to the influence of the tropical depression circulation, from the morning of October 6 to the end of the night of October 7, the mountainous and midland areas of the North will have heavy to very heavy rain, with common rainfall of 100-200 mm, some places over 300 mm.

Information from the Lang Son Hydrometeorological Station said that due to the influence of storm No. 11, Lang Son province has recorded moderate rain, heavy rain, with strong North to Northwest winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 8-9.

The Mau Son area has strong winds of level 9-10, gusts of level 11-12, common rainfall of 200-300 mm, some places over 350 mm.

It is forecasted that in Phu Tho and Son La, there will be moderate to heavy rain; while Lai Chau, Lao Cai, and Tuyen Quang provinces will be cloudy with scattered rain.

On October 6, the Department of Hydrometeorology - National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting issued a warning of flash floods, landslides and land subsidence due to heavy rain in six provinces: Lai Chau, Son La, Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Lang Son and Quang Ninh.

In the past 6 hours, many places have recorded heavy rainfall such as Mau Son (Lang Son): 84.1 mm; Hua Nhan (Son La): 68.6 mm; Ngu Chi Son (Lao Cai): 59 mm; Muong Tuong (Phu Tho): 50.8 mm.

Land moisture in many areas is nearly saturated (over 85%), increasing the risk of landslides, landslides and flash floods on small rivers and streams.

Localities are required to closely monitor flood developments, check drainage systems, and prepare plans to evacuate people from dangerous areas.

The meteorological agency recommends: People absolutely do not travel through culverts and streams during heavy rain; do not take shelter near the foot of hills and steep slopes; and need to proactively update weather information through official canals.
