AFC returns to Vietnam with top-notch MMA event

NGUYỄN ĐĂNG |

The top mixed martial arts (MMA) arena, the Asian Fighting Championship (AFC), will officially return to Vietnam with an event taking place on December 6.

Accordingly, the MMA event named AFC39 Ho Tram Showdown will take place on December 6 at The Grand Ho Tram (Ho Tram commune, Ho Chi Minh City). The event was organized by Cocky Buffalo - martial arts training company, organizing professional martial arts events in Vietnam in coordination with AFC, Vietnam General Martial Arts Federation, Ho Chi Minh City General Martial Arts Federation and other related units, gathering prominent faces of the MMA community.

AFC39 Ho Tram Showdown brings together 14 fighters from many countries with strongly developed MMA movements such as Korea, UK, Brazil, China, Mongolia... 7 matches are arranged in a professional structure, in which the two Fightweight and Heavyweight belt matches will play the central role, promising to create the most passionate and dramatic atmosphere of the competition night.

Two promising fierce belt matches

In the first highlight match of the outstanding Heavyweight title Bout (120.2kg), Mongolian fighter Tserendash Azza Azjargal (37 years old) will face Korean fighter Jang Sung Hyo (35 years old).

Azjargal is 1.80m tall and has experience in competition with 7 wins after 11 matches on the stage. His comprehensive playing style, enduring physical foundation and experience in the front plays help him be considered one of the strong candidates for this year's belt.

Meanwhile, Jang Sung Hyo, 1.81m tall, is unbeaten with 3 wins. Although he has played fewer professional matches, Sung Hyo is considered by experts to be a fighter with good speed, flexible spatial control and high-performance attack typical of Korean MMA.

In the remaining highlight match in the Flyweight title Bout weight class (56.7kg), two fighters with a strong fighting style, Italo Freitas (Brazil), will compete with Joo Dong Jo (Korea).

Italo Freitas is an impressive face of the Brazilian MMA community, holding an impressive record with 10 wins in 12 matches, outstanding with the ability to end the match suddenly with powerful strikings.

On the other side of the front line, Dong Jo is on 5 wins after only 6 professional matches. The Korean fighter is highly appreciated for his ability to approach, create pressure and change the playing range appropriately.

Student Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat competes with Korean coaches

Vietnam will have two representatives attending the event. Luu Duc Manh (61 kg weight, 5 wins, 4 losses), a talented student of "the only winner" Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat from the No1 Muay Club training center will compete with Park Juyong (2 wins, 1 loss), a fighter from Team M.O.B - one of the leading MMA academies in Korea.

In the opening match, Huynh Cong Quoc Hoa (66kg weight) will face British fighter Charlie Dando, who is 1m8 tall and 15cm older than Quoc Hoa.

3 other exciting matches: Moon Jun Hee (77kg), a Korean boxer with 19 matches on the stage (11 wins, 8 losses) will face Zhang Le, a 22-year-old Chinese boxer who is unbeaten with 2 wins. Brazilian boxer Claudio Coutinho (57kg) will face Rhino Casipe (Philippines) while Jerald Villarde (Philippines) will compete with Mamurejiang Nuerdebieke (China).

Not only bringing quality matches, the upcoming international MMA event also brings the audience unique entertainment space, music and cuisine. With the orientation of developing MMA in Vietnam according to international standards, this event not only creates an opportunity for domestic fighters to accumulate competition experience but also contributes to attracting tourists, promoting the image of Vietnam as a new destination for regional martial arts tournaments.
