On the evening of August 29 local time, the fighters of the Vietnam mixed martial arts (MMA) team competed in the final matches of the 2025 Asian Youth Championship.
Athlete Trieu Thi Thu Thuy won the bronze medal in the women's 45kg weight class (modern MMA).
The fighters participating in this weight class will compete in a round-robin to select the person with the highest result to be awarded the championship. Zhao Thi Thu Thuy won the bronze medal when defeating opponent Abbasnezhad Aylin (Iran) in the final match.
This is also the only medal of the Vietnam MMA team at the 2025 Asian Youth Championship. The coaching staff said that the fighters had completed the targets set when participating in the tournament.
Previously, three athletes participating in the men's events including Nguyen Dinh Huy (65kg, traditional MMA), Lang Quoc Cuong (55kg, modern MMA), Vuong Tri Hai (50kg, modern MMA) stopped after the quarter-finals. On August 30, four young Vietnamese MMA fighters returned home.
This is the first time the Asian General Martial Arts Association has organized an Asian Youth MMA tournament. The tournament is part of the preparation program of host Bahrain before the 2025 Asian Youth Sports Festival (AYG 2025) in October.
MMA is part of the official program of this Congress. The Vietnam MMA team will select athletes to participate in the AyG 2025 after the 2025 Youth Championship.
