Al-Nassr faces debt of more than 213 million USD, transfer restrictions

Al-Nassr is said to be burdened with a debt of more than 213 million USD, forcing the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) to tighten the team's financial and transfer activities.

According to Saudi Arabian media, Al-Nassr's debt mainly stems from ineffective financial decisions last season. Faced with this situation, the team is under close supervision from the Saudi Pro League as well as PIF - the unit holding a controlling stake in the club.

Al-Nassr will not be able to register new recruits until it proves that it has sufficient financial resources from sponsorship contracts or commercial revenue to meet expenses.

To deal with the crisis, PIF has implemented a restructuring plan with three main contents. First, this fund restricts the financial decision-making power of the current leadership. At the same time, independent financial, business and legal consulting units are hired to develop plans to increase revenue, cut costs and bring the club back to a sustainable financial state.

In addition, PIF is also said to be considering two investment proposals in Al-Nassr, which prioritize the option of selling part of the shares to supplement financial resources.

According to Al-Riyadiah, the above measures are aimed at protecting the financial value, brand and fan community of Al-Nassr, while ensuring that the club complies with domestic financial management regulations as well as FIFA and international football organizations' standards.

Financial difficulties also make Cristiano Ronaldo's future receive much attention. The Portuguese striker extended his contract with Al-Nassr in 2025 with a very valuable contract, and continues to be a top commercially attractive face of the Saudi Pro League.

Although Ronaldo still maintains a stable scoring performance and brings in significant revenue from commercial activities, Al-Nassr's strict spending control may affect the team's force building plan in the near future.

Founded in 1955 and headquartered in Riyadh, Al-Nassr is one of the most traditional clubs of Saudi Arabian football with 11 national championships. Since Ronaldo joined at the end of 2022, Al-Nassr has become one of the teams receiving great attention from fans around the world.
