Starting to have concerns
General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation Le Tri Truong said, "After training programs and international competitions, the Vietnamese men's and women's volleyball teams will have a professional report.
We will also work with each coaching staff to grasp more professional content. In 2025, men's volleyball has an important goal of the SEA Games, so there will be the most guaranteed preparation."
In fact, the Vietnam men's volleyball team encountered personnel difficulties because the player playing the setter position, Dinh Van Duy, was injured. Therefore, the coaching staff of the Vietnam men's volleyball team had to find a replacement with setters Dinh Van Tu and Nguyen Huynh Anh Phi. However, the change was not the most satisfactory, so the setter position was the weakest point of the Vietnam men's volleyball team. We lost to Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Some people think that the Vietnamese men's volleyball team losing the match at SEA V.League 2024 is also a necessary thing for us to understand where we are weak and what we need to overcome in the future. The last time the Vietnamese men's volleyball team played below their form and lost badly was at the 30th SEA Games in 2019 in the Philippines. At that time, many people thought that the Vietnam Volleyball Federation needed to prepare better.
After that, Vietnamese men's volleyball focused on changing their expertise more thoroughly and we returned to SEA Games 31 with a Silver Medal and SEA Games 32 with a Bronze Medal. All four men's teams including Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and the teams of Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar also had achievement goals at SEA Games 33, so we saw the gap with our opponents after the SEA V.League 2024, and needed time to change.
What is the plan with the coaching staff?
In early 2024, General Secretary Le Tri Truong affirmed that the Vietnam Volleyball Federation is trusting the coaching work of the head coaches of the Vietnam Men's and Women's Volleyball Teams.
Most importantly, for a team to operate well, the coaching staff must work long-term and provide enough professional training for the players. The head coach of the Vietnam men's volleyball team is Mr. Tran Dinh Tien.
The Vietnamese men's volleyball team is only focused on seasonal periods. We are still waiting for specific tournaments to solve the problem of achievements. Vietnamese volleyball in general has not yet developed a plan for long-term focus for national volleyball teams. For the Vietnamese men's volleyball team, the opportunity to participate in international tournaments is also limited. Therefore, the coaching factor is only one and to achieve high results, we need effective hitters. Competing officially in all six matches after two rounds at the SEA V.League 2024, it is clear that Vietnamese players are always in a psychological state, unable to solve decisive situations to overcome opponents. The hitters of the Vietnamese men's volleyball team are not inferior to each opponent Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines in terms of expertise, but in the general operation of the team with 6 players on the field, we have not achieved the best performance.
The goal of Vietnamese men's volleyball for the 33rd SEA Games is certainly nothing more than striving to win medals. If we achieve favorable conditions, we still have enough opportunities to reach the finals of men's volleyball. To do that, the Department of Sports and Physical Training and the Vietnam Volleyball Federation must really focus on investing in the National Volleyball Teams.
