Binh Duong Club has sent a document to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company requesting to change its name to Becamex HCMC.
This document stated: "Becamex Binh Duong Football Club would like to express our sincere thanks for the support, help and facilitation of the Vietnam Football Federation over the past time for the development of the club in particular and the country's sports in general.
Based on the policies of the Party and State as well as the trust of fans in the Southern region in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular, Becamex Binh Duong Football Club now wants to change the Club's name when participating in V. League and other professional football tournaments.
Becamex Binh Duong Football Club Joint Stock Company respectfully hopes to receive attention, support and consideration from the Vietnam Football Federation and Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company so that the Club can soon complete the procedures for the new season".
This is quite surprising information, as previously, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Becamex IDC Nguyen Van Hung confirmed that he would keep the team's name.
The proposal to change the name to Becamex HCMC takes place in the context that Binh Duong club is actively rebuilding its force and aiming for a new image in the V.League.
This team is having many changes in its strength, after the departure of mainstay Vo Hoang Minh Khoa, and the future of captain Nguyen Tien Linh is also a big question mark.
The team from the land of Thu quickly accelerated the process of rejuvenating the squad with potential contracts, typically the young striker Cao Quoc Khanh - a former U23 Vietnam player. Along with that is the addition of quality domestic players such as Phan Thanh Hau or To Phuong Thinh.
