On the evening of May 5, Malaysia's Hmetro newspaper reported that the captain of the Malaysian national team - Faisal Halim was attacked by a stranger with acid that evening while he was present at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara town, Selangor state (Malaysia) to have fun with friends.
Hmetro newspaper said: "The player's body and face were severely damaged."
Meanwhile, Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar also informed: "The police have been informed by the public about the incident through the Malaysia Emergency Response Service (MERS) 999 that a Malaysian football player was splashed with a liquid, believed to be acid. The footballer is being treated at a private hospital in Petaling Jaya and his condition has stabilized."
It is known that Faisal Halim suffered a second-degree burning. According to images reported by Malaysian media, the Malaysian football star has many burns around his neck, shoulders, arms and chest. Although his health is stable, the burns caused by acid will certainly leave a long-term legacy for this player.
Notably, this is the second case in which a player of the Malaysian national team was attacked for unknown reasons in just a few days.
Previously, on May 3, winger Akhyar Rashid of the Malaysian team was also attacked while on his way to celebrate a birthday with his family and friends. Akhyar Rashid was beaten by a stranger with a hard object, his wallet and phone were robbed and he had to be hospitalized.
This player currently has to move on a wheelchair and cannot walk normally.
Worried that local criminal groups are targeting players of the national team, Malaysian police are launching an emergency investigation to ensure the safety of the players.
