Vietnamese sports have welcomed good news when Decree No. 349/2025/ND-CP dated December 30, 2025 of the Government Regulating regimes and policies for members of sports teams participating in training and competition is implemented from February 15.
Mr. Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet - Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration expressed his opinion that new policies and regimes will bring positive changes.
Mr. Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet said: "Decree No. 349/2025/ND-CP shows a breakthrough in management thinking, which is to put people at the center. Seeing investment in coaches and athletes as investment in the sustainable development of the nation.
The fundamental new point of Decree 349/2025/ND-CP is not only the adjustment of quantitative norms, but also a strategic shift in thinking.
This is the first time that policies have been designed in the direction of covering the entire "life cycle" of a sportsman: from the beginning of selection, in the peak of dedication, to retirement and career change.
The Director of the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports also pointed out: "The breakthrough is clearly shown in 3 pillars: First, a salary system approaching the value of specific labor; Second, a solid social security network; Third, a mechanism to prioritize training and solving long-term employment.
This is also highly appreciated by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Chairman of the Vietnam Olympic Committee Nguyen Van Hung when exchanging views on specific policies for coaches and athletes at the recent Olympic Committee Executive Committee Conference.
With the policies and regimes stipulated and started to be applied in Decree No. 349/2025/ND-CP, all members of national sports teams from young to adult are entitled to compulsory social insurance, health insurance as well as unemployment insurance and traffic accident insurance.
At the same time, the Decree also clearly states the specific content for female athletes, which is to receive regimes for illness and maternity. Female coaches and athletes receive regular support for physiological care of 1,100,000 VND/person/month.
