Female athletes will enjoy special preferential treatment, thereby being assured to pursue a sports career and having conditions to ensure life in many circumstances.

Positive new points

Decree No. 349/2025/ND-CP Regulating regimes and policies for sports team members participating in concentrated training and competition (promulgated on December 30, 2025) has new and valuable regulations for women.

Accordingly, female coaches and athletes who receive special regimes have clearly stated: "Female athletes and female coaches who are members of national teams, national youth teams; industry teams, provinces, and cities directly under the central government; industry teams, provinces, and cities directly under the central government during the training and competition period according to the decision of competent authorities are entitled to health and physiological care benefits of 1,100,000 VND/person/month for women".

Female athletes receive information with many positive signals. Representatives of the Vietnamese Shooting Team said that this is a new point that helps the athlete's spirit to be significantly improved, because female athletes need a more specific health care regime than men. Meanwhile, some athletes of the Vietnamese Women's Freestyle Weightlifting Team once shared that if female athletes from local to central levels are guaranteed appropriate care, they will feel more clearly the value and recognition for themselves.

In many previous documents on regimes and policies for Vietnamese sports athletes, specific regulations for female athletes have not been clearly mentioned. However, Article 31 of the Law on Physical Education and Sports has stipulated that the State has policies to develop high-performance sports, invest in facilities, train athletes and coaches to reach national and international standards, and at the same time stipulate specific policies for female athletes and female coaches during training and competition.

Along with that, the Strategy for Development of Physical Education and Sports in Vietnam to 2030, vision to 2045 also identifies one content, which is to pay attention to building specific policies for female athletes. Therefore, the provisions in Decree No. 349/2025/ND-CP bring important values.

Contributions of female athletes to Vietnamese sports

Looking back at the journey of developing high achievements in Vietnamese sports in major arenas, we recognize the valuable competition results brought by female athletes.

Experts still remember that the first Gold Medal of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation since integration, returning to the Southeast Asian Games, was of female shooter Ngo Ngan Ha at the SEA Games in 1989 in Malaysia. The first Olympic result of Vietnam belonged to the Silver Medal achievement in taekwondo by martial artist Tran Hieu Ngan in 2000 in Australia.

In June last year, at the seminar "Sports and Women in the era of reaching out, towards sustainable development" co-organized by the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports and the Vietnam Olympic Committee, many direct opinions from female coaches, athletes and managers were given. Leaders of the sports sector said that society always appreciates the contributions and achievements of women in the field of sports. Each competition result is a value that each person (coaches, athletes) contributes to the success of national sports.

Looking at the journey of the recent SEA Games 33, the performance results of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation have a significant contribution from many female coaches and athletes. Professionals and Vietnamese sports audiences are proud to witness shooter Trinh Thu Vinh winning 4 Gold Medals, breaking 3 SEA Games records or Nguyen Thi Oanh winning 3 distances in athletics and Nguyen Thi Huong winning 4 Gold Medals when competing in canoeing, traditional boat racing...

Nguyen Thi Oanh believes that sports does not lose its femininity, but helps athletes become strong, confident and bring glory to the Fatherland.
